It's official

I just want to point out that when the most exciting moment of your day occurs when you go online to order a textbook entitled Ion Channels of Excitable Membranes, you officially have no life.

Actually, I completely agree with what he says. If Intelligent Design were taking a scientific approach, I'd be all for it. It's actually an interesting premise, from a scientific standpoint. The idea that something out there could have created life on earth somehow. If it could be scientifically studied, the obvious next question is: who's the designer, and what can we learn about him or her? That leads to some very interesting scientific questions.

That said, however, Intelligent Design may be very difficult to study from a scientific standpoint for one very simple reason: there's no falsifiable hypothesis. How do you disprove God? I don't know if you can. Let's say you perform a thousand experiments, and all of them appear to disprove the existence of an intelligent designer; all that means is that your intelligent designer is smart enough to hide Her tracks from you. A supreme being, hypothetically, could erase all evidence of Her existence.

But if one could construct a legitimate science around ID, rather than simply nitpicking a straw-man version of what they claim are claims of the Theory of Evolution, I think that would frankly be pretty cool.
